Pride and Memory. Migration from Southern Italy
The exhibition documents emigration from the Italian South through precious testimonies and documents kept in the Museum of Naples - Bonelli Collection, attesting to the different stories and the economic-social implications of the migratory phenomenon started in the mid-nineteenth century.
Through multiple documents such as posters, posters, travel tickets, postcards, photographs, and objects, which deal with one of the saddest periods in our history, neglected for years, the exhibition has a dual purpose. On one side, it reiterates the importance and the influence that Italian emigration has represented for the destination countries. On the other side, and above all, it makes people understand the centrality of the theme since, even in Italy, little is known about the efforts, the pride and the epic of the emigrants.
This phenomenon, through the ingenuity and industriousness of our ancestors, has contributed significantly to promoting Italy and its brand in the world, giving life to Made in Italy, which has made our country a coveted icon and universally recognized for its excellence.
The narrative path of the exhibition accompanies the visitor in history through reconstructions, artefacts from the period and multimedia contributions, starting from the memories and experiences of those who left Italy to seek work and fortune in various places in the world, with particular attention to those who left from the port of Naples to the Americas.
